Map Visibility

When you share an activity, the map shows the route you rode, including its precise GPS path. To help protect sensitive places like your home or workplace, you can hide the start and end portions of your activity maps so that other users cannot pinpoint where your rides begin or end.

By default, Map Visibility is set to hide the first and last 200 m (0.2 mi) of your routes. You can change this at any time, or turn it off so that no part of your route is hidden.

How to set your default Map Visibility range

  1. Open Flex Settings.
  2. Under Privacy Controls, tap Map Visibility.
  3. Use the slider to choose how much of the start and end of your routes to hide:
    • Metric: Off, 200 m, 400 m, 600 m, 800 m, or 1000 m
    • Imperial: Off, 0.2 mi, 0.4 mi, 0.6 mi, 0.8 mi, or 1 mi
  4. Tap Save.

💡 If you change your unit system in Unit Settings, your selection converts automatically (for example, 200 m corresponds to 0.2 mi).

What others see

When someone else views your activity, the hidden portions at the start and end of your route are removed from the map they see. If your ride is shorter than the hidden range you selected, no route will be shown to others.

What you see

On your own activities, you always see your complete route. If you have set a hidden range, the start and end segments are shown in gray and labeled Hidden, while the middle segment is labeled Visible, so you can confirm exactly what others can and cannot see.

Important things to know

  • This setting only applies to your future activities. Changing it does not update the maps of activities you have already saved.
  • It only affects what others see. Your own data stays complete. Your ride statistics, including distance, XP, and EcoGems, are always calculated from your full route and are not affected by this setting.
  • Map Visibility does not replace your activity visibility setting. If your activity is set to "Anyone," it remains visible to others, but the hidden portions of the map will not be shown. To keep an activity entirely to yourself, set its visibility to "Only me."
  • Hiding part of your map does not make your location impossible to deduce. Others may still be able to infer a hidden location from the visible portion of your route or other information you share. Please consider your own circumstances when deciding what to share.
